The First Sunrise

We watched the sun rise this morning. We watched the darkness fade away and give way to this bright, blinding light. We watched the city wake up as life below began to start again. We got a new perspective-- realizing how small we are down there and yet, somehow, He knows our names. And more than merely knowing our names, Christ knows the deepest parts of us. We can say with David, "You formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. . . Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me." and He says right back, whispering, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you."

He knows my name.

Crazy, that He would.

So there we were, watching new life, a new day begin. So crazy with love for the One who holds this broken world in place that we had to do something. So in this freezing weather, blowing wind, we ran out and snapped pictures. We documented this crazy adventure of a morning-- getting up before the sun and watching it arrive. We celebrated with coffee and blueberry scones. We praised the One who made that breathtaking sky.

And we'd do it over and over again. Every day, if we could.
